La Seine Musicale is the last cultural complex in the Parisian metropolitan area and the latest project in the capital of the prestigious Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, awarded the Pritzker in 2014. The architect, known for the use of cardboard and raw materials such as wood, raised the main auditorium with wooden waves around its perimeter and a ceiling formed by hexagons of wood and cardboard.
This building located on the island of Seguin within the river Seine, houses a 1000m2 auditorium for acoustic concerts, a 1900m2 main concert hall and a 600m2 rehearsal room in which Frapont has had the privilege of collaborating.
Frapont has developed and executed together with the architects and acoustic engineers of Nagata Acoustics, all the carpentry elements, coatings, balcony structure, technical doors and floors, achieving the required aesthetics and complying with the technical requirements of acoustics and fire resistance demanded for these elements totally tailored.
We take particular pride in the fabrication and installation of the more than 50,000 corrugated European oak slats that form the walls and balconies of the main auditorium and the 916 hexagonal wood and cardboard modules that form the corrugated ceiling.
Probably the most complex project we have carried out to date due to its high technical and aesthetic demands. We have carried out countless acoustic, fire resistance and structural load tests to guarantee the compliance that the project and our client required. A great investment in R&D that has really made this project an emblem in our company and of which we are especially satisfied and proud.
