ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Henning Larsen Architects, in collaboration with SLA and Tyeéns, won a competition for the design of a new town hall in Uppsala, Sweden.

The project included a remodeling and extension of the existing town hall building, which was built in 1957 and only partially completed according to the original plans. Henning Larsen was tasked with connecting the old with the new through a glass-roofed courtyard, creating a new public area for the residents of one of Sweden’s largest cities.

The new city hall, opening in late summer 2022, reflects the desire to be a transparent and accessible government, inviting the public to enter through an entrance that connects the urban landscape directly to the inner square.

This central building houses the meeting and conference facilities, where Frapont has manufactured and installed the suspended ceilings and wall cladding. In the common areas we have also installed the false ceilings made of solid wood.

It was a project with BREEAM Excellent certification, so we have submitted extensive sustainability protocols verifying that the wood we have installed was of sustainable origin.
