The most positive aspect is that Frapont made very little ‘noise’ throughout the project and delivered overall very high quality for the agreed price, agreed schedule, and with good HMS focus.
PROJECT SCOPE
Normoria is a new cultural building located in Kristiansund on Norway’s west coast. The complex houses the city’s opera, public library, cultural school, and the Nordmøre Museum, integrating multiple functions into a single architectural volume.
Frapont was responsible for the technical development, fabrication, and installation of custom wood acoustic cladding in the main auditorium, acoustic rooms, and common areas. Panels, handrails, and integrated ventilation systems were installed throughout.
Each element was tailored to the acoustic and functional requirements of each space. This ensured precise integration between architecture, technical performance, and end-user experience. To see more similar projects, visit our projects page.

MATERIALS AND FINISHES
The cladding panels were fabricated in plywood and MDF with European ash veneer. Finishes include clear, white, and black lacquers, defined according to the identity of each room.
Metal structures were incorporated in the amphitheatre to guarantee structural stability and long-term durability. All finishes comply with standards for acoustic precision and visual uniformity. Sustainability standards and environmental certifications were strictly respected.
TECHNICAL CHALLENGES AND IMPLEMENTED SOLUTIONS
All finishing works were carried out in close coordination with the teams responsible for HVAC, lighting, and sound systems. This collaboration allowed full integration of all technical terminals within the cladding.
The project required a high level of architectural synthesis. Strict fire protection criteria and local safety regulations were applied. Additionally, engineering solutions were developed to dimension custom handrails that meet aesthetic, acoustic, and safety functions.
SUSTAINABILITY AND CERTIFICATION
All materials comply with BREEAM, LEED, and PEFC/FSC standards, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The selection of certified wood and the integration of efficient technical solutions reinforce Frapont’s commitment to responsible construction. More information on BREEAM.
FRAPONT’S ADDED VALUE
Frapont’s expertise in custom wood acoustic cladding and bespoke fabrication ensured advanced acoustic performance in all rooms. The solutions provided guarantee technical precision, acoustic comfort, and long-term durability in a high-complexity cultural project.
